One step at a time
Let’s make it
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, honey, and yeast; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to dry ingredients; stir to form a sticky dough.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead about 8 minutes, adding flour as needed until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with damp towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
- Divide dough into 12 equal portions; shape into balls and place in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Cover and let rise 15 minutes.
- Bake at 375°F for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
A little kitchen know-how
Check dough dryness before kneading; it should be slightly tacky but not sticky to prevent dense rolls.
Storage & leftovers
Store cooled rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 1 month; reheat wrapped in foil at 350°F for 10 minutes.
